The Workshop
Where young actors train, create, and shine on stage and screen.
The Workshop is our dynamic, industry-driven acting programme for young people in School Years 7–12. Designed for actors who want to develop exceptional skills across stage, screen, and filmmaking, The Workshop offers a unique blend of professional training, hands-on experience, and unforgettable performance opportunities.
At The Workshop, actors receive comprehensive training across the core disciplines of TV acting, film acting, and stage performance. They explore a wide range of techniques from renowned theatre practitioners, developing the craft, confidence, and versatility required of a modern performer.
Young actors spend around 50% of the year creating professional-standard films, learning the full filmmaking process both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. From directing and cinematography to script work and on-camera performance, actors gain a deep understanding of how films are made from concept to final cut. At the end of the year, Workshop actors enjoy one of the most exciting events in the YAC calendar: Walking the red carpet at their own Film Premiere, seeing their work on the big screen in front of family, friends, and industry professionals.
The other half of the year is devoted to stage production training. Actors work on a full theatre production which is performed in a professional theatre space, giving them invaluable experience in live performance, character work, ensemble acting, and stagecraft. Each year, every Workshop actor will take part in at least one live performance, building confidence, technique, and a deep understanding of theatrical practice.
